Al Busby, Busby Lamb

This is the life for me! I have been around the world and know that I belong back in Scotland farming my own sheep and cattle.

Our family farm is called Unthank, a steep, scenic hill farm, and dates back to the turbulent time of Robert the Bruce. It lies near the head of Ewes valley, the ancient hill pass between Dumfriesshire and the Scottish Borders, not far from Langholm. Reivers would thunder by on their way to steal cattle from the English – much has changed since then but not the sheep and cattle or the way we rear them.

I returned home to farm when my father retired having lost all our sheep during Foot & Mouth. It was time for a serious rethink about how to farm. Now we have a lower density of sheep on the hills now to allow natural regeneration of woodland (including our Wedding Wood!) and flora. I also launched Busby Lamb onto the market and today we supply faithful, discerning lamb and beef lovers up and down the country.

A true life of contentment – come and see for yourself!

How I like it best: Chops – the ultimate fast food, just a flash in the pan and then dabbled in salsa verde and devoured in my fingers, poking out every last pocket of meat before tossing the bone to ever patient doggie Zephyr. Then we’re all happy.
